The Available Styles And Materials Of Hand Railings

By Paul J Coleman

Hand railings are an integral piece in the interior furnishings of the house, not only for safety purposes, but also for the sake of adding beauty to the place. They are usually installed in places which are one meter above ground level like for decks and platforms.

It is a tricky job to get a hand rail installed. If one wishes to get a hand rail installed for a stair case even for a single storey, it is a difficult thing to do. There is a huge variety of hand rails available in the market, from which you can choose according to your taste. We admire the beauty of spiral or circular stair cases, but we cannot imagine the extent of hard work carried out by the contractor who installed its staircase.

Hand railings are made up of small components and the main cylindrical top which is held by people while going up or down the stairs.

In order to keep the handrails fixed in their place, brackets are used. These brackets are screwed from the inside of the railings with the help of its clamps, by placing these beneath the main railing. These are the most critical part of the railing because they help in keeping the entire structure fixed. If these are not fitted properly, serious accidents might happen. A longer wall may require several brackets to strengthen the tube and to keep it in its place.

One can find plenty of designs and styles of hand rails in the market. Even the materials come in so many different types, that it is usually very difficult to choose. Materials are of different types like polished metals, flat black, oil rubbed, satin nickel finishes and wood.

Since immemorial time, wood has been used in building houses, and still it is a popular preference for people redecorating their houses. Wood adds a classic element to any room and is also known to be quite durable. A variety of wood species is available now in the market, and people can choose the colour of wood that goes with the theme of the room where they want to install the railing.

For those who want to add a modern chic touch to their newly built homes, metal handrails and brackets are the premium choice. A variety in the type of metal exists as well such as aluminium, stainless steel, die-cast zinc, and the ever-popular brass. Metal furnished hand railings are also known to be extremely durable, withstanding years of changing environments.

Commonly available brackets are divided in two major classes, the one with round disc and the other with flat bracket. Flat brackets are ideal for hand railings that have a flat bottom, while the round disc ones are made for the railings, which have completely round rails. However, this should be kept in mind that the flat brackets are plain while the round disc type brackets are available in different designs and can add a decorative effect to the place such as those with intricate wooden carvings or the ones that feature statue heads on the surface. - 29956
