Can The Internet Make You A Better Parent?

By Kathy Forcey

When I heard the saying that kids don't come with a handbook I never really understood what they meant. Then I had a baby of my own and I suddenly knew exactly what they meant. No two children are exactly the same, what works with one child won't work with another.

How do you know what to do in certain situations with your kids? It is normal to do many of the things that your parents did with you when you were a child. The problem with this is that you may be carrying on bad habits for no reason other than that your parents did it and I turned out ok.

The toddler years are amongst the toughest to deal with, your son or daughter is getting to be willful and it can be difficult to know how to deal with some situations. Most of us end up reacting in the way our parents did, or we just become so laid back that we don't ever set any boundaries.

I have watched a number of the TV shows that feature a family in distress. I found that they were extreme cases and lucky enough my family aren't so out of control that we need a nanny all the way from the UK to help us work out what is happening.

I did find that the Internet was a wealth of information on parenting, maybe too much information. Finding a writer who seemed to have been through similar situations to me and has a similar outlook on life was vital. if you read a site and want to shout at the screen then it probably isn't the right website for you.

I like to be able to read some real life experiences as well as asking the expert for advice if I don't find what I am looking for. - 29956
