Making Your Own Gift Basket For This Christmas

By Sarah McCullam

Christmas is fast approaching and we need to share gifts with lot of relatives. We always lived with limited money, so finding a Christmas gift within our budget is a big task. May be this was the reason why Christmas gift baskets was tradition in my family.

Forget about buying all the cousins toy soldiers like they wanted. Forget about buying aunt Berta the new sweater that you were meaning to get her. The only thing we could really put together on a limited budget was Christmas gift baskets.

Even with the limited budget, we always did our best when it comes gifts to relatives. We make the gift basket as a work of art. We will include some gourmet food, and my grandmother makes preserves which is the central part of the ingredients in the our gift basket.

We would include pieces of cheese from my father's pasture, and a little but of sausage if we could afford it. Besides that, of course, there were candies for the children. They were all wrapped in brightly colored paper and tinsel, perfect for the holidays.

The way we present the gift baskets is more important. Half of its value is from the outside looks of the gift basket. We will make sure the presentation of the gift is colorful and attractive. We will take enough time and care to pack all the ingredient and make the basket attractive. This way we will compensate the shortage in money by spending more time in creating the gift basket.

We would use special packing materials like colorful ribbons, bows and streamers to make the gift attractive. We will also send a handmade gift card to all the relatives. No one was ever disappointed with out Christmas gift baskets.

Believe it or not, we received more compliments in sharing gifts baskets. People really like handmade gifts. Almost all the ingredients used in the basket will be useful and practical. Moreover they will indulge in the gift basket on how it was made by looking in to intrinsic details and amaze on how much time we would have taken to prepare it.

It really makes a nice gesture and they will know how much effort you put into it. It might take a while, and the first attempt does not always come out well, but keep at it. Christmas gift baskets, or any other handmade gifts are definitely worth it. You will save a few bucks, and give a gift that will be cherished. - 29956
