Security Cameras: Surveillance Cameras Equipment 101

By Octavien Remillard

Security cameras will unveil the darndest things. You will have to decide in your heart what you are willing to watch and what you will not. Whether you are trying to catch an erring spouse you suspect, a teenager you think is dealing drugs or employees stealing, decide to what lengths you are willing to go. Check local privacy laws also. They vary a great deal. Once youve settled all that, you will find that these amazing systems will deliver a treasure trove of information.

When they first came out, surveillance cameras equipment was bulky and unreliable with image quality that could kindly be called poor. They were hard-wired to a central system where there was either a human monitor or a recording device of some sort. Hours upon hours of video would be recorded with much of it watching an area with no movement.

The list of standard features on modern security cameras is the stuff of science fiction. They include:

Incredible image quality.

There is no hard wiring. The units are wireless.

There is a variety of sizes available. Some so small they can be hidden in a tea cup.

No tapes, no dvds to store. The devices have on board memories that hold hours of video.

The latest units go even further with memory storage. They have motion sensors that tell the camera to only record when there is movement in the viewing field.

To fine tune even further the motion sensing capability, the surveillance cameras can be programmed to deaden parts of the sensor field so that small animals or little kids playing won't trigger the devices.

And, of course, cameras are available that can see in the dark.

Videos from your cameras can be downloaded and stored on a computer or similar device. This can be down over a wire or wirelessly if the situation allows the signal to get through.

The neatest feature of the modern units is their size. They can be hidden almost anywhere. There is a company now that sells empty containers of common household items like shaving cream which are plenty large enough to hold a hidden video camera. For the outside, you might want a camera in a flower pot or disguised as a floodlight.

The possibilities are endless as are the opportunities these amazing systems offer you. Use your new power wisely and safely. Let this technology protect you and yours. - 29956
