Clawfoot and Free Standing Bathtubs Fundamentals

By Sarah Hampton

Deciding which type of bathtub would suit one?s bathroom may seem easy to do. However, when one goes out to finally buy one, he may only be surprised at the number of designs there actually are. Since he may have not done his homework of narrowing down his choices with either a printed catalogue or by searching online, spending an hour or more walking around the store will likely be his fate.

For ease in cleaning every nook of a bathtub, a free standing bathtub may be the better option for buying. Its main characteristic is that it is not attached to the wall or the floor. This can be transferred easily with a little help if necessary in rearranging or redesigning the bathroom. This can also be turned sideways so that the bottom can be scrubbed clean.

In strict definitions, any bathtub that is not attached to either the wall or the floor is a free standing type. Even the clawfoot bathtub is obviously one. Because of its different look, many would think of it as another distinct type of bathtub, one that is totally diverse.

A clawfoot bathtub is an unattached tub used for bathing. Its most prominent feature is the four feet that support and lift it up from the floor. Because of those distinct feet, it has a certain traditional look. For people who want to add a touch of history in their bathrooms, this can be a good choice.

Many of these have even been improved to look even classier. Its tubs, whatever material it is made of, are shaped as elegantly as those of the times they first went out in the market. There are those made of copper, a material that was commonly used centuries ago for the tubs. Many times they are mistaken for antiques because of how they look. Being in it for hours, would make dreaming about the past easy.

If you are into the avant-garde arts, the modern free standing bathtub might satisfy you. Its shape and design are usually geometric and sleek. Its tubs are usually made of acrylic, enamel, or resin. There are also those that are copper-colored to fit in bathrooms with cool and dark atmosphere.

Your choice of bathtub would depend much on your bathroom?s design. You should make sure that it would not look strange in the bathroom. When in the store, picture your bathroom so that you can choose your bathtub as well.

Of course, consider also the size that would fit your bathroom. Otherwise, you may have one that would be too big. This would take too much space and would make your bathroom appear smaller. - 29956
